Creating a positive holiday experiences with a loved one with dementia can be a challenge.
The Alzheimer’s Association is offering a program that will teach tips and strategies for making the holidays enjoyable by minimizing stress and frustration for everyone.
Specific topics include but are not limited to; travel, maintaining a routine, facilitating communication and knowing when to say “no” to others.

The program is designed for family caregivers; please no professionals.

Also, a program titled, “Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behavior” is being offered by the Alzheimer’s Association in early November.
Behavior is a powerful form of communication and is one of the primary ways for people with dementia to communicate their needs and feelings as the ability to use language is lost. However, some behaviors can present real challenges for caregivers to manage.
The program will help you learn how to decode behavioral messages, identify common behavior triggers, and learn strategies to help intervene with some of the most common behavioral challenges of Alzheimer’s disease.
The program will take place at the Alzheimer’s Association, 2808 Palumbo Drive (basement conference room), Lexington on Nov. 9th, 2016, from noon to 1 p.m. Registration is required; please call 1-800-272-3900. Bring a lunch.
