Everyone knows that staying active leads to a longer and stronger life.

The YMCA of Central Kentucky has that as the focus of its Active Older Adults and Silver Sneakers programming.

Offered at the Beaumont YMCA at 3251 Beaumont Centre Circle, the programming suits seniors no matter their fitness level or exercise preference, be it in the pool, with a group or solo or with a little music on the dance floor.

Silver Sneakers, the nation’s leading exercise program specially designed for active, older adults, has classes for those at several levels of fitness. All of them are designed to improved your strength, increase your energy and improve you overall well being. And they include yoga and time in the pool.

Other classes at the YMCA especially for seniors include:

  • Let’s Dance which lets you show off your moves on the dance floor while getting a good cardio workout.
  • The Let’s Ride class which is held in the cycling studio for those who enjoy the benefits of an indoor bike ride without having to worry about traffic and there’s
  • Pickleball, a racquet sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis and ping pong. The sport is played on a court with the same dimensions as a doubles badminton court. The net is similar to a tennis net, but is mounted two inches lower.  The game is played with a hard paddle and a polymer wiffle ball. The ball typically moves at one-third of the average speed of a tennis ball.
