Ky. treasurer will discuss ways to increase the rate of retirement savings at i know expo

Kentucky State Treasurer Todd Hollenbach will be part of the third annual i know expo to be held from noon to 5 p.m. April 12 at The Lexington Center.

During the most recent Kentucky legislative session, Hollenbach worked on the Financial Literacy Bill – House Bill 375 – that would create a Kentucky Financial Literacy Commission that would have among its focuses to increase the rate of retirement savings among Kentuckians.

“This commission would be set up as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, paid for by corporate donations and fundraising by the commission. No general fund dollars will be used to fund the commission,” said Treasurer Hollenbach. “Most importantly, we’ll be providing a resource for Kentuckians, uplifting the financial position of our citizens and therefore our Commonwealth as a whole.”

The bill, which passed the House in late February, is modeled after a similar bill, which passed into Tennessee law in 2010.

The bill will be brought up again in next year’s legislative session.
