I know expo partner, AARP is cosponsoring a gubernatorial debate in Kentucky, one of only three states electing a governor this year.
State Attorney General Jack Conway (D) and businessman Matt Bevin (R) will face off at Centre College in Danville at 7 p.m. Oct. 6. WAVE 3 News will broadcast the debate statewide with anchor Scott Reynolds as moderator.
The candidates will field questions important to voters 50 and older, such as how to relieve the burden on about 648,000 unpaid family caregivers in the state and how to help about 787,000 Kentuckians who don’t have access to an employer-sponsored retirement plan to achieve lifelong financial security.
Centre College has established formal candidate criteria for debate and, so far, only two candidates –Conway and Bevin – meet the requirements, according to the college’s eNews service
“We take seriously our role as a public servant when hosting debates, and in the absence of established criteria for statewide races in Kentucky, we wanted to devise our own ahead of time based upon best practices,” Centre President John A. Roush said. “We owe this to the citizens of Kentucky who take seriously their right to vote and participate in the democratic process.”
