When the state General Assembly returns to the capitol on Jan. 4, AARP grassroots volunteers will be there (virtually) to promote the needs of the state’s older adults.

Debate on the state’s two-year spending plan will be shaped by the availability of federal dollars through 2024. These funds offer opportunities to allow more Kentuckians to age in place at home and to improve the quality and safety of care provided in nursing homes.

Other legislative priorities for AARP Kentucky next year are lowering prescription drug costs, providing paid leave for family caregivers and promoting better tax policies for retirees and those with high medical costs.

AARP Kentucky will host its annual virtual Lobby Days in the capitol, from Feb. 8 to 11, to bring together advocacy volunteers and lawmakers.
