If you haven’t looked at the construction on the new Lexington senior center lately, you should.

Progress is being made on the new being built at 195 Life Lane, right behind Southland Christian Church on Richmond Road.

After years of people wishing, hoping and some even praying, Lexington $13 million senior center will have 33,000 square feet on two floors that will include an art room, a fitness room, card/game tables, classrooms, a café, a large multi-purpose room and a dance studio.

The new facility is almost twice as large as the current one on Nicholasville Road. It will close when the new center opens.

More decisions about the center will be made in the coming months and organizers plan to continue to involve the community in these. In addition to collaborating with the public, the city has also sought input from various LFUCG agencies including Parks and Recreation and Water Quality as there are numerous city projects – from sports fields to sanitary sewers – all working together.

The facility will be for Fayette County residents 60 years or older and their spouses.
