What’s going on with all the construction mess at the Lexington Convention Center?

The OLLI – Osher Lifelong Learn Institute – wants to tell you.

At 2 p.m., Feb. 28, the Donovan Forum Series will take a look at the reinvention of the Lexington Convention Center and Rupp Arena.

The program will be held at the Lexington Senior Center, 195 Life Lane.

The speaker will be Richard Polk, Jr., Principal/Architect, EOP Architects.

For those who haven’t noticed, the Board of Directors of the Lexington Center Corporation voted in 2018 to build a new and expanded Lexington Convention Center.

The $241 million project will keep intact the original 2014 design and vision of the project.

The contract includes: all new construction costs, demolition of the Jefferson Street Bridge including the north abutment, new UK Hospitality Clubs, new upper arena chair back seats and new parking structures.

The three-year construction project is scheduled to be completed in November 2021.

The project will be built in phases to allow Rupp Arena and much of the existing convention center to remain in operation during construction.
