Every year, the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging has a party for patients who have volunteered to participate in research at the center. It’s an annual highlight for patients and staff alike, who often form special bonds over the course of several years.

This year’s party recognized a special volunteer, Geneva Pope, who has been helping doctors and researchers by volunteering to participate in research for the past 14 years.

Laura Dawahare, a senior public relations specialist at UK, wrote a wonderful story about the good works folks are doing by volunteering at Sanders-Brown. In it she quotes Dr. Gregory Jicha, associate professor at UK’s Sanders-Brown Center, who said: “Participating in clinical trials is a truly noble act and we consider the people who volunteer for research part of our family. So it’s natural that we would gather at the holidays to share a little joy and thanksgiving.”
